Dear Parishioners,

People who have a lot of money and no time, we call them "Rich." And people who have a great deal of time but no money, we call "poor." A "successful" life is one in which a person is always terribly busy, working hard, accomplishing great things, and making a great deal of money. The profoundly rich are put on the covers of magazines; their million and billion-dollar fortunes, mansions, corporate acquisitions, and opulent life-styles are held up to the public eye as the model, the dream, and the jackpot of a winning life. Best-selling books and television programs promise to reveal the secret formula for getting rich, making more money than you ever imagined, becoming a real success.

The values of Christ and his Gospel will always require the cost of your time. Honesty, courage, kindness, civility, wisdom, compassion – these can only be nourished in the soil of time and attention, and need experience and practice to come to harvest. These are not commodities that can be bought, sold, or invested. They cannot be manufactured, advertised, or marketed. Our core human values, the deepest and best of who we are, require the nourishment of time and care, if we are to grow and flourish. Once, an independent business woman said: “I couldn’t leave the cost of a "successful" life. You have to give up something to be a success in business. There’s not time for everything. Me, I have very little time for my spiritual life. I don’t have a civic life. And I did very little with friendships. I really don’t bother much with anything that doesn’t have to do with business. I don’t have time to cultivate relationships that aren’t profitable."(Taken from Sabbath: by Wayne Muller, Pg.99)

The Sabbath… can be understood as the Sunday observance, and/or my own personal time to rest and recharge my mind, my heart, and my soul. Sabbath is a revolutionary invitation to consider that the fruits of our labor may be found in the rest of an unhurried harvest of time. In time, we can taste the sweetness of peace, serenity, well-being, and the light. The truth must be told: with all the money in the world, and no time, we have nothing at all. People stand up in front of others and introduce themselves each & every day. However, I firmly believe that if you give me two things (your calendar & your Check book) I can tell you exactly who you are and what your values are by the way you spend your time and your money. So many of us waste our time playing video games, surfing the web without purpose, watching hours of TV, and working ourselves to death.

Take time to rest! Jesus would invite his disciples to go to a deserted place and join him in prayer to the Father and invited them to be still and quiet.

Take time to pray! And remember… to keep Holy the Sabbath… both the Day of the Lord and your own personal time to reconnect to the very nectar of life!

A las personas que tienen mucho dinero y poco tiempo, las llamamos "Ricas". Y a las personas que tienen mucho tiempo, pero carecen de dinero, las llamamos "pobres". Una vida "exitosa" es aquella en la que una persona siempre está terriblemente ocupada, trabajando duro, logrando grandes cosas y ganando mucho dinero. Los profundamente ricos aparecen en las portadas de las revistas; sus fortunas de millones y miles de millones de dólares, mansiones, adquisiciones corporativas y estilos de vida opulentos se presentan a la vista del público como el modelo, el sueño y el premio gordo de una vida ganadora. Los libros y programas de televisión más vendidos prometen revelar la fórmula secreta para hacerse rico, ganar más dinero del que jamás imaginó y convertirse en un verdadero éxito.

Los valores de Cristo y su Evangelio siempre requerirán el costo de su tiempo. Honestidad, coraje, amabilidad, cortesía, sabiduría, compasión: estos solo pueden nutrirse en el terreno del tiempo y la atención, y necesitan experiencia y práctica para llegar a cosechar. Estos no son productos básicos que se puedan comprar, vender o invertir. No se pueden fabricar, anunciar ni comercializar. Nuestros valores humanos fundamentales, los más profundos y mejores de quienes somos, requieren el alimento de tiempo y cuidado, si queremos crecer y prosperar. Una vez, una mujer de negocios independiente dijo: “No podía dejar el costo de una vida" exitosa ". Tienes que renunciar a algo para tener éxito en los negocios. No hay tiempo para todo. Yo tengo muy poco tiempo para mi vida espiritual. No tengo una vida cívica. E hice muy poco con las amistades. Realmente no me preocupo mucho por nada que no tenga que ver con los negocios. El sábado … se puede entender como la observancia del domingo y / o mi propio tiempo personal para descansar y recargar mi mente, mi corazón y mi alma. El sábado es una invitación revolucionaria a considerar que los frutos de nuestro trabajo se pueden encontrar en el resto de una cosecha del tiempo sin prisas. Con el tiempo, podemos saborear la dulzura de la paz, la serenidad, el bienestar y la luz. Hay que decir la verdad: con todo el dinero del mundo y sin tiempo, no tenemos nada en absoluto. La gente se pone de pie frente a los demás y se presenta todos los días. Sin embargo, creo firmemente que si me das dos cosas (tu calendario y tu chequera) puedo decirte exactamente quién eres y cuáles son tus valores por la forma en que gastas tu tiempo y tu dinero. Muchos de nosotros perdemos nuestro tiempo jugando videojuegos, navegando por la web sin propósito, viendo horas de televisión y trabajando hasta la muerte.

¡Tome tiempo para descansar! Jesús invitaba a sus discípulos a ir a un lugar desierto y unirse a él en oración al Padre y los invitaba a estar tranquilos y en silencio.

¡Tome tiempo para orar! Y recuerde… santificar el sábado… ¡tanto el Día del Señor como su propio tiempo personal para volver a conectarse con el néctar de la vida!
